Other Costs:
Written exams cost £35 per paper, and you need to take 5 of them.
It is customary (but not compulsory) to buy your Instructor a cup of tea after your
lesson - cost £1.
All the required helmets, headsets, flying suits, gloves etc are included in the
cost of your lesson.

Extended briefings and Ground School
Our hourly rate includes a pre-flight briefing on the exercises to be conducted during
the lesson, plus a post-flight debrief.
There are a few points in the course which require a longer ground-based session
to support key parts of the syllabus - these are known as "extended briefings" and
are chargeable. The key extended briefings are:
Aircraft familiarisation - understanding the nuts and bolts of the gyro
Rotor Management - how the rotor works, and how its behaviour drives the flight characteristics
of the autogyro.
Cross-country preparation - preparation for your cross-country navigation exercise
(this is only required if you don't "self brief" prior to your flight and prepare
to an adequate standard)

Solo Flight Scheme
Gyro Training is one of the few UK gyro schools which allows solo flight on School
machines - this means that you can complete your training without having to own a
gyro. Even if you are planning to buy your own aircraft it means that you can go
solo when you are ready - you won't have to wait until your new aircraft is delivered
or the right machine comes up for sale.
Our insurers place a £7,500 excess on the hull insurance for our machines. Before
you can fly our aircraft solo you must lodge a deposit of £5,000 with us, which will
(of course!) be returned to you when you finish your training - as long as you haven't
broken our machine in the meantime. If you do seriosuly damage the aircraft whilst
flying solo you will lose your deposit and be required to pay an additional £2,500
to cover the whole insurance excess.
There is also a one-off non-refundable fee of £340 to cover the additional insurance
cover required to allow our students to fly solo on School aircraft.
